A couple years ago I was traveling around the world admiring the view of Buenos Aires from my AirBnB while sipping yerba mate and wondered what would it cost to buy myself a vacation home like this?
I found that getting key market data for even simple things like price per square meter changes over time was difficult. I was also acutely curious how prices compared across different places I enjoyed spending time. How do the prices in Mexico City compare to Lima compare to Buenos Aires? What are the average apartment sizes across the top neighborhoods of those capital cities? Which neighborhoods have seen rapid gentrification and price appreciation? Being unable to satisfactorily answer these sorts of questions I decided to go about the time consuming but rewarding work of gathering the data to answer these.
I’m a programmer by trade so I wrote a program to download all the property listing data I could find (100s of thousands of listings per month) and then I started being able to generate insights I found exciting! On this newsletter I plan to share those insights with you.
To start I plan on writing every month an update on the Lima Real Estate Market and Argentina Real Estate Market. I will also probably write some one-off posts about different special topics relating to Latin American real estate such as deep dives into the various neighborhoods and cities.
If you have topics you would like to see (charts, metrics, topics, locations, etc) please email me with your suggestions!
